SUMMARY Following a long period of high nuptiality, caused both by an increase in the age-specific marriage rates and to a lowering of the age at marriage, the first marriage rate suddenly fell rapidly after 1966; re-marriages {of widowed and divorced persons), which were already decreasing, continued to do so at a faster rate. At the same time, there is a considerable rise in the number of illegitimate births and a rapid increase in the number of divorces. These are symptoms of a change in attitudes, the Swedes now seem to prefer consensual unions, even when there are children, to legal marriage.RESUMEN Después de un largo periodo de alta nupcialidad, debida a la vez a un aumento de su intensidad en las generaciones y a una disminución de la edad al matrimonio, la nupcialidad de solteros ha disminuido fuertemente desde 1966; los matrimonios en segundas nupcias (viudos y divorciados), que ya estaban disminuyendo, han acelerado su caida.
