Entre interactions institutionnelles et effets matriciels : questions autour de la sécularisation du politique en Espagne

Analysis of the contemporary interaction between religion and politicsin Spain allows one to temper excessively radical findings on the secularization of politics in that country. This tempering can be done firom at least two perspectives. Inspired by classical institutional analysis, the first entails looking in detail at the relationship between religious and political actors. This leads one to stress the legitimizing role played by religious leaders during the political transition and the reproduction within the religious field of the Umis of democratic consensus which, in particular, can be observed in the more anti-centralist territories. The second perspective enlarges the spectrum of this question by analyzsing both the effects of Catholic belonging on political cultures and by promoting a flexible conceptualization of the ecclesiatical insitution. The latter is necessary in order to grasp the multitude of structuring effects that Catholicism has upon the Spanish public sphere.L'observation des interactions contemporaines entre religion et politique en Espagne permet de revoir à la baisse les constats les plus radicaux de sécularisation achevée du politique. Cette relativisation peut se faire depuis au moins deux perspectives. La première, renvoyant à une approche institutionnelle classique, se penche sur les relations entre acteurs religieux et acteurs politiques. On insiste ici sur le rôle légitimant des leaders religieux dans le processus de transition politique, et sur la reproduction au sein du champ religieux des limites du consensus démocratique, observable notamment sur les territoires réfractaires. La deuxième perspective élargit le spectre en s'interrogeant à la fois sur les effets de l'appartenance catholique sur les cultures politiques, et sur la nécessité d'une conception souple de l'institution ccclésiale pour saisir la multiplicité des effets structurants du catholicisme sur l'espace public espagnol.Itçaina Xabier.
