Viticulture du Languedoc : une tradition syndicale en mouvement

Winegrowers' syndicates in Languedoc were a long time indépendant of national agricultural syndicalism. They demanded that the State organize the market to maintain the price of wine and defend the income of winegrowers'. They used radical actions and somtimes violence. The Montredon shooting (March 1976) forced them to change. Since 1976, wingrowers'syndicalism has changed its discourse and its practices. It accept now the market, want to improve the quality of the wines and want to create groups of producers, only ways to improve winegrowers'income.En Languedoc, les syndicats de viticulteurs ont longtemps fait le choix de l'autonomie vis-à- vis du syndicalisme agricole national. Leur principale revendication portait sur l'intervention de l'État sur le marché et la défense du prix du vin afin de protéger le revenu des producteurs. Pour les imposer, ils ont utilisé l'action directe parfois violente, la fusillade de Montredon (1976) les oblige à changer. Depuis cette date, le syndicalisme viticole a modifié son discours et ses pratiques. Il accepte les lois du marché, défend la nécessité de l'action économique et la reconversion qualitative, seuls moyens susceptibles d'améliorer le revenu des vignerons.Martin Jean Philippe.
