The Uruk expansion of the 4th millennium presents a rare opportunity to study the material correlates of ethnicity in the organization of prehistoric culture contact. At Hacinebi, local Anatolian and southern Mesopotamian (Uruk) communities interacted and engaged in exchange, yet maintained separate identities over several centuries. This paper explores the domestic behaviors inferred from several use-related aspects of pottery with a specific emphasis on reconstructing the culinary routines of the Anatolian and Mesopotamian groups at Hacinebi.
