Functional Analysis of Chipped Stone Artefacts from the Late Neolithic Site of Gabal Na'ja, Eastern Jordan.

Sites of "Burin Neolithic" type in the Bādiyat al-Šām have high proportions of burins in the flint assemblages. Microwear studies have been done to find out how the burins may have been used. The results of these studies suggest that most of the burins were used, not as tools, but as cores for the production of spalls.Les sites néolithiques «à burins» mis au jour dans le Bādiyat al-Šām présentent dans leurs assemblages de fortes proportions de burins. Des études au microscope portant sur les traces d'usure ont été effectuées afin de retrouver quelle avait pu être l'utilisation de ces burins. Elles ont montré que, pour la plupart des pièces, il ne s'agissait pas d'outils mais qu'elles avaient servi de nuclei destinés à produire des «chutes» par la suite manufacturées.Finlayson Bill, Betts Alison.
