The authors decided to carry out a survey in a region where the Paleolithic is little known, closely associating the prehistory with the geomorphology; the aim was to lay the foundations for a prehistoric chronology based on the morphostratigraphy and on the artefacts techno-typology. On the Euphrates and the Nizip, many generations of alluvial terraces were recognised.
