Mollusca from Yiftah'el, Lower Galilee, Israel

In the PPNB site of Yiftah'el the marine shells resemble the assemblages of other PPNB sites : There is a dominance of Mediterranean bivalves, a few cowries and two specimens from the Red Sea. Most freshwater shells were probably brought in with the clay which was used for producing mudbricks, whilst landsnails invaded the site after its desertion. Late Neolithic and Early Bronze I Age marine shells are very few and their stratigraphic context is not always clear.Sur le site PPNB de Yitfah'el, l'assemblage de coquilles marines ressemble à celui des autres sites PPNB .'prédominance de bivalves marins, quelques cauries et deux coquilles de la Mer Rouge. La plupart des coquilles d'eau douce furent probablement apportées dans l'argile qui servit à confectionner les briques crues alors que les escargots terrestres semblent avoir envahi le site après sa désertion.
