The NPT Extension and Nuclear Arms Control in the Middle-East, by Shai Feldman Proliferation issues in the Middle East remain unresolved despite the indefinite extension of the NPT. Risks remain both in Iraq and in Iran, and in spite of Egypt's insistence, Israel has not adhered to the Treaty. The anti-proliferation actions undertaken in Iraq are not applicable in other cases such as Iran. The Iraqi experience also illustrates the importance of unilateral determination (first and foremost hy the United States) to complement multilateral approaches.
