The electoral defeat of the Jamaican pro-Castrist government strengthens the US positions in the West Indies. On the other hand, El Salvador, a country divided by two contradictory projects of political and social change, is torn apart by civil war. Revolutionaries draw their inspiration from the Nicaraguan experience and from the earlier precedent of the Mexican revolution.
