Oil, recycling and petrodollars in the 80s, by Yves Laulan The consequences of the first oil crisis on world economy were heavy: for the developed countries, the results were a decline in the growth rate and a renewed outbreak of inflation and unemployment; while the developing countries, however, maintained their growth by running into debts which reached a critical level. Capital outlays and the investments of the oil-producing countries, as well as the international banking circuit, have guaranteed the recycling of petrodollars, but these outlets are almost saturated.
