Summary : Development of memory components with age. To study the differential development of memory with aging, a serie of memory paradigms was constructed which measure 17 parameters and which has been applied to young (20 years) and elderly subjects (80 years). The main memory scores were words/pictures, immediate/delayed recall, recall/recognition, pictures/faces, and free recall/hierarchical organization. A factorial analysis shows the main factors of the parameters which are associated with aging of memory. Five factors contribute to the same proportion of variability : Verbal Coding, Image Storage, Lexical Storage (perhaps visuo-graphical), an intrusion Control Factor and a Face Storage factor.
