Summary : Resolution of formal categorial syllogisms. After a brief reminder of the structure of categorical syllogisms, the main issues involved in their psychological study are discussed. In order to explain performance in classical experiments, it was assumed that reasoning is by-passed by non-logical processes, due to strong material and time constraints. A model, applicable to most subjects on most syllogisms, was developed.
