Raisonnement analogique et résolution de problèmes

Summary : Analogical reasoning and problem solving. Current research in Cognitive Psychology and Artificial Intelligence show that analogy is an important process for problem solving and knowledge acquisitions. Experimental results underline that the basic components of analogical reasoning are encoding, seeking for an analogy, and mapping. These components can be isolated in complex problems — concurrently with other ways of reasoning. In problem solving, subjects use analogical reasoning when two problems have the same schema. An important reasoning step is to build up the problem representation which gives access to the common problem schema. A second important step is to control the solution inferred from analogy. Moore and Newell, using Merlin's System, have shown that analogy can be the main process of understanding, knowledge acquisition and problem solving. Other systems use analogy in more specific ways : to invent new hypotheses (Chouraqui), or to generate new procedures (McDermott). Analogy is a fruitful concept from a theoretical point of view, but there is still very little experimental data available today. Key words : analogical reasoning, problem solving, artificial intelligence.Résumé Dans cette revue de questions, les travaux cités, tant en psychologie cognitive qu'en Intelligence artificielle, montrent que le raisonnement analogique joue un rôle fondamental dans la résolution de problèmes et dans la construction des connaissances. Parmi les processus élémentaires qui constituent le raisonnement analogique, une place privilégiée est accordée à ceux qui contribuent à l'élaboration d'une représentation du problème à résoudre : codage du problème, et recherche d'une situation analogue. La question théorique soulevée est celle de l'organisation des connaissances en mémoire. Les concepts de « schéma » et de « prototype de problème » apparaissent actuellement comme des concepts clés.
