Summary The aim of the present experiment was to investigate the influence of the double coding of stimulus on the rate of recall of verbal and iconic stimuli. The material consisted of a series of drawings and sentences projected on a screen. The duration of both types of stimuli is the same : 0,5 sec ; there are two rates of presentation : 1 stimulus every 3 sec, one every 5 sec. Situations in which Ss were asked to verbalize images or to visualize sentences were compared to situations in which Ss were asked simply to look at the images or to read the sentences.
