How does the threshold of recognition of objects vary as a junction of age and method of their presentation. Four groups of girls aged 6 ; 11, 8 ; 2, 10 ; 6, and 22 ; 1 were examined. Eight different objects (small scale models or natural size) were used. They were introduced into the tachistoscope as real objects (three dimensional), photographs, shaded and detailed drawings, and simple line drawings. The tallied results show that for all the methods of presentation, the threshold decreases as age increases. The following order, from the easiest to recognize to the most difficult, was found : the detailed drawings, the objects themselves, the photographs, the simple line drawings.
