Abstract Museums: Identity and Cultural Heritage among the Yoruba. — The relation between museums and the notion of identity is studied through three national museums in the Yoruba area in Lagos, Ife et Esie. In Nigeria, museums are a mean for developing the national consciousness of a cultural heritage so as to impede secessionist attempts by trying to restore ties with an ancestral culture ranging back to ancient empires, kingdoms and city-states.
