It is my intent in this paper to identify some of the current issues of debate concerning the genre of apocalypse with a view to demonstrating what is the most adequate view to date in the discussion. This will be accomplished by examining four different approaches to defining the apocalyptic genre. Unfortunately, formulating a hermeneutic for the genre is beyond the confines of this paper
