Ca (CH3COO)2 &middot H2O-Ca(H2PO4) &middot H2O electrolyte system with La (NO3)3 &middot 6H2O was used to carry out micro-arc oxidation treatment on pure titanium. By means of XRD, SEM and EDX, the effects of La on morphologies, phases and compositions of coatings gained from the electrolyte were investigated. The cell culture method was used to study the cyto-compatibility of the coating. The results show that the coatings formed in electrolyte with La are thinner and have larger pores than those formed in electrolyte without La. Addition of La can inhibit the transition from anatase to rutile and has stronger capability of inducing HA.
