This paper investigates MILD combustion for pulverized coal in order to deepen the applicability of this technology to coal combustions. Experiments of MILD combustion with low preheating temperature air and O2/RFG (recirculated flue gas) were carried out. Results show a significant advantage for NO reduction by MILD combustion. The NO emission is even lower under oxy-MILD combustion mode compared to air-MILD due to CO reduction and smaller fuel-N conversion. On the other hand, the coal burnout ratio decreases in MILD combustion modes compared to flame modes no matter in O2/N 2 or O2/RFG atmospheres because of lower oxygen concentration and combustion temperature in the combustion area which slows down the coal combustion rate.EI
