We present a microfluidic system for interstitial fluid (ISF) transdermal extraction, ISF volume measurement, and dielectric glucose sensing towards the application of continuous glucose monitoring. This device significantly incorporates a MEMS volume sensor, which measures extracted ISF volume via conductance monitoring, and integrates a MEMS dielectric glucose sensor, which specifically measures glucose concentrations in the transdermally extracted ISF via affinity binding. The volume sensor and the glucose sensor in the microfluidic system are characterized. The feasibility of the single-chip device for automated, accurate, and continuous monitoring of subcutaneous ISF glucose concentrations is verified. ? 2013 IEEE.EI
