The shortages of current water function zoning (WFZ) in China was summarized and described as followings: Absence of implantation of integrated watershed management; ignoring the ecological water demands of aquatic ecosystems; neglecting the indicators and goals of water resource, water environment and aquatic ecosystems, and dynamic regulating of immediate, medium-term and long-term.
