Mesoporous titania materials were synthesized using non-surfactant organic compounds, such as 2, 2-bis (hydroxymethyl) propionic acid (BHPA), glycerin (Gln) and pentaerythritol (Pent), as templates via the HC1-catalyzed sol-gel process. The resultant products have been examined with TGA, BET, XRD and TEM. BET studies show that the N2 adsorption-desorption isotherm plots of the samples prepared with BHPA as a template exhibit type IV isotherms, which suggest the formation of mesoporous structures. The surface area and pore volume increase slightly with the increasing content of organic template while the pore size is nearly constant (3-4 nm) with a narrow distribution about 0.5-0.8 nm.
