The study focuses on the solution to automatically distinguish road elements from river in high resolution remote sensing image. Here, triangular method of fractal dimensions is used to process the IKONOS image for road elements and river distinguishing. The authors try to distinguish automatically road elements from river though they have many similar characters, such as linear feature and so on listed in the paper. Through simulation with Matlab, the effectiveness of the fractal algorithm is testified, and its application strategy is discussed.
