METAL-INSULATOR-TRANSITION AND SUPERCONDUCTIVITY IN Y1-XPRXBA2CU3O7

To interpret the metal-insulator transition and the depression of T(c) induced by Pr doping for the Y1-xPrxBa2Cu3O7 system, we propose a model following the Hamiltonian of Fehrenbacher and Rice for the CuO2-Pr-CuO2 subcell. In our model, the role of the reservoir hole is particularly emphasized and a scenario for the Pr-doping-dependent hole distribution is proposed. As a natural conseqence, most of the experimental results on Y1-xPrxBa2Cu3O7, including the metal-insulator transition, the depression of T(c), the valence states deduced from magnetic and spectroscopic measurements, and so on, can be explained.
