This paper focuses on the need for the development of creative cultural industries inNigeria and their effects on economic empowerment. The strong argument ofthe paper isthat the creative cultural industries of Nigeria, in their formal and aesthetic richness, canbe exploited as an aspect of intemational trade and economic empowerment providedthey are matched by ample implementation strategies that are well defined andformulated. It enumerates factors inhibiting the growth and development of the creativesector and individual artists' perception of creative industries sector. It discusses the needfor the creative and cultural sector to be accorded due attention and should be recognizedand developed as a prime resource for national recovery and regeneration. The paperconcludes by proffering solutions for the effective development of Nigeria's creativeindustries for economic growth and economic empowerment of the teeming ruralpopulace.
