A CMOS active pixel sensor (APS) on silicon-on-sapphire substrate with backside illumination was presented. The SOS APS was fabricated and verified to work at a low VDD of 1.2V. The PIN diode showed the typical linear relationship between the photocurrent and illuminance under both front and backside illumination.EI
