Missile impact against a continuously supported rigid-plastic beam results in only a transient phase of deformation that continuously evolves towards the primary dynamic mode; there is no modal phase of deformation. Large deflection effects are incorporated in this analysis by considering interactions between plastic bending and stretching in deforming regions.
