Study on water flooding types and characteristics with saturation logs

Saturation logs are not only able to identify the residual oil saturation and its location, but also capable of defining the source of intruding water. However, saturation logging analyses to identify water flooding are mostly restricted in single wells, and study of water flooding types and characteristics on a whole reservoir is lacked. Based on the case of a giant edge water-drive marine sandstone reservoir, Main Pay, Iraq Rumaila Oilfield, a standard to classify oil and water is decided using saturation logs and PLT logs. Furthermore, whether water is from original underground or injection is clarified on the basis of different expression of C/O mode and capture mode. With the sorting standard of oil and water, saline water and fresh water, reservoirs are classified as 5 types. The analysis completes the water flooding characteristic surface in every layer on the statistics of single wells.
