In this paper, a high-speed framing camera is used to seize the transient process of crack propagation. Under impact load, dynamic energy release rates of the running crack tip of a three-point-bend beam with initial crack are studied by means of dynamic caustics. The synthetical relationship of the crack propagating time and velocity, dynamic stress intensity factors with dynamic energy release rates are analyzed. At the end, the driving effect of dynamic energy release rate is presented.EI02111-1161
