A novel structure of external cavity was reported. With weak optical feedback, the linewidth of the diode laser SDL-5400 was narrowed from 15 MHz to 500 kHz or below. This diode laser can be used for the study of high resolution spectroscopy, magnetic-optical trap and atomic fountain frequency standards etc. In addition, the relation between linewidth and current tuning rate was studied theoretically and experimentally. The obtained formula was proved by means of saturated spectroscopy.EI0101383-13881
