A new method for reconstruction of scattering characteristics using wave-mode coefficients for 2D conducting objects is proposed. The technique uses the circular cylinder as a reference, and the scattered fields of other 2D targets are expressed in the same form of superposition of a series of cylindrical wave-modes. The coefficients of the wave-modes are independent of frequency and can be extracted using backscattering data. The extracted coefficients are found to be a good representation of scattering characteristics, and its application to target identifications seems to be promising. ? 2011 IEEE.EI
