Systemic anaplastic large cell lymphoma (ALCL) is subtyped into ALK-positive ALCL and ALK-negative ALCL based on the presence or absence of ALK protein expression. ALK-positive ALCL is characterized by t(2;5)(p23;q35)/NPM-ALK or variant ALK-involved translocations, while little is known about the genetic changes in ALK-negative ALCL. We investigated the structural and numerical aberrations of the ALK gene using interphase fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) in 81 cases with ALCL and analyzed their association with clinical outcome of the patients.
