The magnetic properties of thin ferromagnetic and antiferromagnetic itinerant-electron films are investigated within the single-band Hubbard model. The Coulomb interaction between the electrons in the magnetic layers is treated by the spectral density approach. The phase diagrams of thin magnetic films are discussed as a function of film thickness. The influence of nonmagnetic metallic substrates on the phase diagrams is also studied in detail. The Curie and Neel temperatures of ferromagnetic and antiferromagnetic films are studied as a function of film thickness for the cases with and without substrates.
