Investigation on the phase diagram of the ternary system LaCl3-NaCl-LiCl

The phase diagram of ternary system LaCl3-NaCl-LiCl has been constructed. Eight vertical sections were studied by means of DTA and it was confirmed by XRD that there is no intermediate compounds in the LiCl-NaCl system. It was found that there are two liquidus surfaces corresponding to the primary crystallization of LaCl3, (Na,Li)Cl(ss) respectively, two univariant curves related to the secondary crystallization and one minimum curve, one ternary minimum point M (444 degrees C; LaCl3 58.4 wt %, NaCl 15.36 wt %, LiCl 26.04 wt %).
