The emission line profile of an atom in a dissipative medium is investigated theoretically by Langevin formulation. A general formula for the line profile is presented. Among others, there appears an additional broadening originating from the energy width of the photon. The line profile also deviates somewhat from the Lorentzian shape.OpticsPhysics, AppliedSCI(E)EI0ARTICLE3325-331
