In recent years, competitive demands for land for housing, resource extraction, highways, and for other uses have contributed to increased complexities in land management. To respond to such complex problems, numerous laws, programs and organizations have been created. Many of these laws, programs and organizations locus specially upon forest management. Forest management practices reflect substantial changes in the use of forest today in comparison with earlier periods. Both an historical perspective and an orientation to the future are required for effective long term management of the valuable renewable resources of the forest
