This article discusses two interventions by the Brazilian army in a region of internal borders. The first, in the nineteenth century with the creation of the Military Colony of São Pedro de Alcântara de Gurupi in an adjacent region, between the provinces of Maranhão and Pará. The second, in the decades of 1960 and 1970, during the construction of a highway when most of the material traces of the intervention of the previous century were destroyed. From the analysis of the discourses of social subjects involved in the two cases (the directors of the Colony, to the first intervention, and the villagers, for the second, mainly) and the historical production, the intention is to build a historical narrative in order to identify the meani...
