Forests and biodiversity - The combined dynamic of national and community - level policies

The European Union is a focal point for reflections and political initiatives in the area of biodiversity: the Birds directive, the Habitats directive, fauna, flora, position in respect of the convention on biological diversity. The Commission, Council and European Parliament hope to serve as examples and further an ambition in this area that do not target forests alone but have major consequences for forest policy. Echoing the Community strategy for biodiversity (June 2011), the new French strategy for biodiversity (May 2011), in which forests are a space and implementing theme, as well as an area for intensifying partnerships. The article presents an overview of the outlooks and stakes in this area. Beyond the Natura 2000 network, the convergence between new priorities on ecological connectivity and overseas territories are noteworthy.L’Union européenne est le lieu de réflexions et d’initiatives politiques en matière de biodiversité : directive Oiseaux, directive Habitats, faune, flore, positionnement dans la convention sur la diversité biologique. Un point des perspectives et des enjeux dans ce domaine est présenté. Au-delà du réseau Natura 2000, on notera la convergence des nouvelles priorités sur la connectivité écologique et sur les territoires ultramarins
