Many studies have been carried out on the interfaces between two ecosystems giving rise to the emergence of concepts such as ecotone, ecocline and edge effect. In the Crau Plain (Bouches-du-Rhône), we followed the dynamics of an interface subjected to the stress of sustained itinerant sheep grazing by analysing two aerial photographs. The impact of this dynamic on the vegetation was assessed using the transect method and the grazing pressure was computed indirectly by measuring the offshoots of a shrub (Phillyrea angustifolia L.). Our results show that the forest edge expands slowly both through extension of cover and recruitment. This interface is not however an ecotone inasmuch as the species richness in the middle woody cover clas...
