The number of organ transplants in the EU increased by 17% between 2008 and 2015. A report written by research institute NIVEL shows that this increase occurred in the course of the Action Plan on Organ Donation and Transplantation that ran from 2009 to 2015. Between 2008 and 2015, the number of organ donors increased from 12,000 to almost 15,000 (an increase of 21%). This increase in the number of donors led to 4600 additional transplants from 28,100 in 2008 to 32,700 in 2015 (an increase of 17%). The number of kidney transplants has increased by 60%, liver transplants by 24% and heart transplants by 11%.
