Different aspects of thermochemical treatments (nitriding, carburizing and nitrocarburizing) of austenitic stainless steel AISI 316 L conducted at low temperature were discussed. In the first chapter, a state of the art of these thermochemical treatments, as well as techniques used to achieve them have been presented. The nitriding and carburizing treatments, performed in a plasma reactor assisted by microwave in the Matrix Distributed Electron Cyclotron Resonance configuration, were studied in chapter 3.
