Complex metallic alloys (CMAs) are intermetallic compounds whose crystal structure differs from the usual alloys by the number of atoms in the unit cell and the occurrence of high symmetry aggregates as building blocks. The specific structure of CMAs gives them unique physical and chemical properties compared to more conventional metallic alloys, particularly with regard to surface properties.The overall goal of this thesis is the determination of the atomic and electronic surface structure of alumnium-cobalt based complex metal alloys using ab initio calculation methods based on the density functional theory.
