We have developed an original cutting forces measurement method which doesn't need complementary instrumentation of the machine tool. It is based on analysis of information provided by Active Magnetic Bearings (AMB) of the spindle. Cutting forces are obtained by combining command voltages of AMB saved during machining and eight AMB/tool Transfer Functions (FT) experimentally measured when the rotor doesn't move. Our cutting forces measurements are in good agreement with Kistler and Dyna TK dynamometer in their application field (respectively 1 kHz and 8 kHz). Taking account of gyroscopic effects need to replace the eight experimental AMB/tool FT by those obtained using a finite element analysis of the set rotor/toot-holder/tool in our cut...
