Images of war on American television : Vietnam and the Persian Gulf

At the putbreak of the Gulf war, Dan Hallin refers to the conclusions of his research on the Vietnam war to affirm that American television has never acted as a ''driving force" in the conduct of war. American audiovisual media are bearers neither of pacifist discourse nor of subjective interventions; they simply accompany the opinion of the American majority. Although initially in favour of the war, American public opinion gradually began to oppose it as of the 1968 Têt offensive.
