This paper discusses different approaches for exchanging bidirectional data in Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) advertising mode without establishing a connection. By default the BLE specification does not describe the use of data exchange during advertising. Different approaches to transmit bits of information in advertising mode in both directions have been elaborated and compared. Thus a BLE test set-up was built consisting of a peripheral device with an EM9301 BLE chip and a BLE Smartphone as a central device. Practical experiments have proven the feasibility
