The civil solidarity-based economy depends on the public sphere for its role as a sphere of communication. Democratic exchanges are necessary in this type of social relation because solidarity implies that all viewpoints should be heard particularly those of disadvantaged population groups. The liberal economy is the opposite of this as only the “profitability” viewpoint and the “invisible hand of market forces” are taken into account and all others ignored.
