When households threatened by social exclusion are able to strengthen their non-monetary resources, by doing so they can promote solidarity on family, community and local levels. Such exchanges can even have positive repercussions for an increasingly vibrant public sphere. Contrary to certain economical models that inspire policies aimed at fighting social exclusion, the evaluation of experimental projects in social action through self-help shows that monetary and non-monetary resources can co-exist in complementary fashion.
