International audienceSince 2010, electronic identification of sheep and goat population is compulsory in France. This paper describes how such technical norms, usually specific to industrial production, have been imposed to the farmers. From the farmers’ point of view who are opposed to it, the generalization of traceability procedures is seen as the dispossession of their own profession. Traceability is also described as an important moment in the emergence of abstraction, like in any other computerized trade: the informational value.
