This paper describe a new model-based segmentation and motion analysis technique combining Euler-Lagrange formalism and shape representation by Fourier decomposition. Fourier descriptor, by its parametrical and hierarchical nature, make it a very used tool for 2D representation and pattern classification applications. At first, we propose in this article, to extend the concept of elliptic Fourier descriptor for 2D closed curve to 3D representation. All 3D closed surface with spheric topology can be decomposed over an ellipsoidal basis functions. In a second step, to realise in the same time the segmentation and traking process, we establish, from the less action principle of Hamilton, the Lagrange equations of motion of the Fourier par...
