The book is devoted to the most important problems in the development of Polish art photography from 1945–1955. The signiicant issues discussed here include many as yet unanalysed, such as: the creation of new institutional base and its entanglement in the centrally planned cultural policy; the resurgence of pre-war artistic strategies (e.g. pictorialism) and revival of the homeland photography programme used to document wartime destruction and Poland’s regained and newly incorporated territories.
